When you bring your dog to an appointment at our grooming salon, it is important to take several things into account. If you bring the dog in the morning, do not feed it too much. Let the dog out properly; it is certainly not pleasant if it has to hold its needs for a long time. Bring the dog free of fleas. When you bring the dog, do not say a long goodbye as this can make the dog restless and think that something serious is wrong, when in fact only its hair is being trimmed. The treatment itself is shown to you and proceeds as follows. Your dog will first be trimmed to length with scissors or a machine. After this, the desired style is applied. Any matting is removed (if possible) and the coat is combed through. After this, the dog is washed and dried. During washing, the anal glands are emptied, if necessary. Once the dog is dry, the nails are trimmed and the ears are cleared of excess hair. Finally, the dog is finished, which means the style is permanently trimmed in. The dog receives a nice fragrance and is ready to go home. When you pick up the dog, we appreciate it if you look it over carefully. If you feel that something still needs to be changed, we can do that right away (ears a bit shorter, tail a bit shorter, a lock a bit shorter, etc.). Of course, we want you to go home completely satisfied with your dog. After the treatment, it is possible that your dog behaves differently than normal, usually not, but it can happen. The reason for this is that the dog needs to adjust to the changes in its coat. It may happen that the dog shakes its head, no need to panic. This is caused by the hair being removed from the ears; the ears feel different to the dog. Any red spots may be caused by the fact that we had to remove some matting from the coat; this symptom also disappears within a few hours. For dogs with a plucking coat, it is normal for the skin where plucked to look slightly redder than usual; this also disappears within a few hours. If you are unsure, call us. Finally, a few more tips: Always bring your dog on a leash. If your dog has a medical condition, let us know. Tell us clearly what your wishes are. It is helpful for us to know what you expect when you pick up the dog, to avoid disappointments. Do NOT wash your dog yourself shortly before the treatment. What you can do: Daily maintenance of the coat by brushing and combing. Start this when the dog is still a puppy; this way it will grow up with it and learn that it needs to happen and that it is a normal procedure. Brushing is actually more than just grooming; it strengthens the social bond with your dog. Through daily maintenance, you will also notice special things earlier, such as a flea, a tick, a bump, or a wound. Also teach the dog to allow you to look in its mouth; you can train it by regularly opening its mouth and then rewarding it. By not applying daily maintenance to the coat, it can become seriously matted or even felted with all the unpleasant consequences that entails.
